Obituary

Patricia Ann (McLaughlin) Tinney, 83, of Carlisle PA, passed away on August 13th in Thornwald Home. She was born in Altoona on February 23rd, 1930 to the late Joseph E. and Margaret (Chandler) McLaughlin. She graduated from Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School Altoona and Seton Hill University, Greensburg, PA. She worked doing research and classes at Lenkanau Hospital, Philadelphia, and was on the Jonas Salk Polio research team at University of Pittsburgh. She is predeceased by her husband, W. Stanley Tinney, in 1998. They were married in 1955. They lived in Gibbsboro, NJ, for 19 years, and then moved to Carlisle PA in 1978. She was a librarian in N.J., and then a phlebotomist at Carlisle Hospital for 19 years, retired, and worked part time in Carlisle School district cafeterias for 5 years.

Patricia is survived by her brother James and wife Shirley McLaughlin of Altoona, and nephew Michael, wife Chris, grand nephew Michael and grand niece Katie of Canonsburg PA. Her children include son Joseph and wife Julie Tinney of Newport News, VA; daughters Mary Pat and husband Richard Henry of Newville, Terry Slagle and companion Gary Brandt of Boiling Springs, Cecilia and husband Ken Paul of Severn, MD.

Blessed with 10 grandchildren: Katie Tobin and husband Chad Kuhn of Harrisburg, Kathy and husband Tye Miller of Newport News VA, Terri and husband Mike Dorshimer of Carlisle, Daniel and wife Jessica Tinney of Carrollton VA, Courtney Shreve and companion Sam Waring of Carlisle, Kelly and Siwatu Reid of Mt. Holly Springs, Evan Slagle of Carlisle, Kurtis Prendki of Severn MD, Joseph Tinney of Windsor VA, and William Tinney of Newport News VA.  There are also 8 great grandchildren of whom Patricia was especially proud.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Patricia’s life at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17th at Thornwald Home Chapel.  Being a lover of cats and dogs, memorial donations would be appreciated to Spay Neuter Assistance Program – SNAP, P.O.
